1) Popcorn

Next time you’re at the movies reach for another snack instead. Popcorn kernels can easily get lodged in your braces and you’ll have a terrible time trying to get them out.

You’ll end up spending the whole movie with your tongue between your teeth trying to dislodge the popcorn. It’s best to avoid this salty snack.

2) Beef Jerky

Beefy jerky requires you to tear into it like an animal and puts too much pressure on your front teeth. The last thing you want it for your braces to pop off and you have to make an extra trip to the orthodontist.

3) Gum

Despite what your friends may tell you, you really want to avoid chewing gum while wearing braces. Gum is very sticky and gets attached to the metal too easily.

4) Chewy Candies

Stay away from chewy candies like caramel until after you get your braces off. These sweets are bad for braceless teeth and can be especially dangerous for people with braces.

The candy can get caught under teeth and cause cavities.

5) Corn on the Cob

Biting into a piece of corn on the cob is essentially a death sentence for your braces. This biting motion can easily cause the braces on your front teeth to come off.

6) Soda

Carbonated beverages are highly acidic and can dissolve the protective enamel on your teeth. It’s best to stay away from sodas any time, but especially when you have braces.

7) Whole Raw Vegetables

This isn’t an excuse not to eat your vegetables! However, you should cut raw vegetables into smaller pieces so they’re easier to chew with your braces.

8) Ice

If you have braces it’s time to kick your own ice chewing habits. Chewing ice is hard on the teeth and can knock braces off in some cases.

9) Hard Tacos

Hard tacos is another one of the foods to avoid with braces. Next time you’re at Taco Bell opt for something softer like a quesadilla or burrito. Your teeth will thank you.

10) Nuts

Aw, nuts. It’s best to avoid eating nuts when you have braces because of their hard outer shell. When you crunch the nut between your teeth tiny particles can get caught in your braces.
