Toothaches are mainly caused by inflammation or infections and occur when the nerves are irritated. When experiencing tooth pain, it is vital to ascertain the cause of your pain. This helps to determine the most appropriate way to eliminate pain. Mild pain can be managed at home through home remedies. However, if your symptoms persist, it is advisable to seek medical help. Below are ways to relieve tooth pain.

Oral pain medication

Taking anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen will give some relief. Medication should be taken as recommended on the packaging. Anti-inflammatory medication reduces swelling and pain.

Apply a cold compress

Placing a frozen pack of ice on your cheek is one way of dealing with a toothache. Applying a cold compress constricts blood vessels in the affected area, which helps relieve the pain and reduce inflammation.

Rinse with salt and water

A saltwater rinse is a natural way to eliminate a toothache. It not only gives temporary pain relief but also cleans any infections, reduces swelling, and heals oral wounds. Besides that, it also aids in the removal of food particles stuck in the gums and teeth. Saltwater is not to be swallowed.

Hydrogen peroxide rinse

Using hydrogen peroxide to relieve toothache discomfort helps to reduce pain and inflammation. Hydrogen peroxide is diluted with equal parts of water before use. Just like any other mouthwash, swish it around your mouth and spit it.

Garlic

Garlic possesses medicinal properties and is a natural remedy for toothaches. Garlic relieves pain and kills bacteria. Chewing a fresh clove of garlic eases the discomfort associated with toothache. Alternatively, you can opt to make a paste from garlic and apply it on the affected area.

Vanilla extract

Using vanilla extract eases off the pain. It contains alcohol, which creates some numbness in the affected area.

Peppermint tea

Peppermint tea bags have numbing properties, which help to ease the pain. Menthol, an ingredient in peppermint, has a soothing effect on the gums, creating a pleasing sensation. The tea bags can be placed in a freezer before use, then applied to the affected area

Use clove oil

Clove oil is an appropriate treatment for dental pain, which reduces inflammation and relieves pain. Cloves possess analgesic properties that numb the affected area. Besides that, clove oil has antiseptic properties; it contains eugenol, a compound that helps sterilize oral wounds. This treatment works by applying some little oil on a cotton ball and placing it on the affected area. Alternatively, chewing a clove can also help relieve pain.

Using thyme

Thyme is known to possess antioxidant and antibacterial properties that help alleviate pain and inflammation. You can make thyme mouthwash by adding a few drops of oil to water.

Guava

Guava leaves have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. They play a significant role in sterilizing and healing of oral wounds. One can chew guava leaves or make a mouthwash by boiling crushed guava leaves.

We had an excellent experience with ABDONEY Orthodontics. My daughter underwent treatment that included expanders followed by Invisalign to correct her bite, and the entire process was smooth and successful from start to finish. One thing that truly stood out was how well the office was run. Every appointment was on time, and we never had to sit and wait. The doctors and staff were always friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and willing to answer any questions we had. Most importantly, they created such a positive and welcoming environment that my daughter never felt anxious or fearful about her orthodontic appointments. She was always comfortable and at ease, which made a huge difference throughout her treatment. We are very pleased with the results and highly recommend ABDONEY Orthodontics to any family looking for exceptional orthodontic care.

Abdoney Orthodontics is amazing. I transferred from a Smile office in Navarre to here in Wesley Chapel and even though they are 3 hours from where I live, they have accommodated me from the moment I needed to transfer. The staff is kind and knowledgeable and are always happy and helpful. The Drs are wonderful with new patients and make ya feel right at home. I definitely recommend them to anyone who needs orthodontist services young and older. I am almost 60 and just got my braces off today and my Smile has never been better! Thank you all for the kind was and caring! Bree
